Enter the world of John Weir, a corporate espionage expert, portrayed by the talented Kiefer Sutherland in Paramount+’s new thriller series, Rabbit Hole. The first two episodes of the show are filled with twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the very end. But in this review, we’ll focus only on the first episode and its mind-bending complexities.

The Story Unfolds

The first episode of Rabbit Hole introduces us to John Weir at a hotel bar, where he meets Hailey, played by Meta Golding. They spend the night together, but the next day, John wakes up Hailey, acting paranoid and talking about a blackmail scheme that leaves Hailey in the dark. After John leaves, he believes someone is following him and runs into Agent Jo Madi, who is waiting for him outside his destination.

Agent Madi starts probing John about a hedge fund manager who unloaded his stake in a pharma stock after hearing rumors about a boner pill causing cancer, causing the stock to crash. However, there was no such selloff in Tokyo, leaving Agent Madi suspicious. It turns out that John had blackmailed the bartender to put on a fake news broadcast to create a false narrative.

John denies any wrongdoing to Agent Madi and goes to his office, where he briefs his team about a new job. The job involves making it look like a Treasury Department official, Edward Homm, is in cahoots with the CEO of a rival company. John’s team manages to plant an envelope with Homm that makes it appear as if the CEO is handing him a payoff. This effectively ends the feds’ investigation into John’s client.

After delivering the results to Valence, his friend, John sees Hailey entering a cab across the street. He confronts her and finds out that she found him on a dating app. Then, the news ticker above shows that John is wanted for the murder of Edward Homm.

John manages to escape and sees his loft building explode in a ball of fire, with two of his associates inside. John later sneaks into Valenceโ€™s office and accuses him of being behind the murders, but Valence receives an anonymous text message and jumps off the building’s terrace. John escapes the chaos and returns to his childhood home, where we see Edward Homm bound to a chair in the basement.

The Mind-Bending Conclusion

If you’re looking for a new thriller to add to your watch list, Rabbit Hole is definitely worth checking out. This first episode sets the stage for a complex and unpredictable storyline, full of twists and turns that will leave you on the edge of your seat. The characters are intriguing, and the story is engaging, with a perfect blend of perplexity and burstiness that will keep you guessing until the very end.
